5 Places to Visit Near Murfreesboro for a Quick Trip

We are in the middle of winter, my friends. Unfortunately for most, winter leaves people wanting to do nothing but sit on their rears and hibernate. While this may sound delightful when the weather is freezing, it is not great for your mental health! This winter grab some loved ones and head on an adventure to some (or all!) of these close destinations. You’ll be so glad you did!

5 Places to Visit Near Murfreesboro, TN for a Quick Trip

Leiper’s Fork, Tennessee

Leiper’s Fork is an absolutely “must-visit” destination. This fun little town was settled in the late 1700s, and is full of history and historical charm. Something about this town just makes you want to sit on the porch and rock in a rocking chair while listening to your grandfather tell stories.

Leiper’s Fork has many “must-see” destinations. While there, visit West & Company for apparel and gifts. You can also go antiquing for the perfect vintage items at Village Vintage & Homegoods. Leiper’s Fork even has its own art gallery – Leiper’s Creek Gallery. And we aren’t done yet. Head to Puckett’s Grocery and Restaurant for the best breakfast buffet of your entire life, or visit Sugar A. Bakery for some great coffee and a sweet treat. In the summertime, Leiper’s Fork has even more to offer with a lawn-chair theater and great farmer’s market!

Smithville, Tennessee

Smithville, TN is home to Center Hill Lake. It is also the site of many fun summer time events such as the Fiddlers’ Jamboree and Crafts Festival. In the winter, Smithville still has plenty to offer. Head on down to taste some of the best catfish you’ll ever have at White Possum Grille, or some homestyle chicken and dumplings from Kilgore’s. Book a cabin to enjoy the breathtaking views of Center Hill Lake and relax in nature. You can book a room at Evins Mill, a 17-room resort on 40 acres of property. Here you can enjoy hikes, waterfalls, lawn games, and more!

Sewanee, Tennessee

Sewanee is just a short drive from Murfreesboro, TN and has plenty to see and do. Located on top of the Cumberland Plateau, you’ll find beautiful architecture, scenic surroundings, and more. There are plenty of outdoor activities to be enjoyed year round. With more than 50 miles of trails, there are endless hiking possibilities for both amateurs and pros. You can also rent bikes to hit the trails on a mountain bike.

After you’ve taken in the sites and shops, head on over to The Blue Chair Cafe and Tavern, IvyWild, or Shenanigans for some great grub. If you’re looking to stay for the weekend, check out the Sewanee Inn!

Paducah, Kentucky

Paducah was established in the early 1800s courtesy of its proximity to water. It has great places to visit such as the Paducah Railroad Museum, River Discovery Center, Tilghman Civil War Museum, and the William Clark Market House Museum.

Paducah also is home to two breweries: Paducah Beer Werks and Dry Ground Brewing Co. It’s downtown area and Lower Town Arts District have great food, shopping, entertainment, and more.

You can also get active in Paducah by utilizing some of its many walking trails, riverfront parks, and more. Once you’ve worked up an appetite head down to Cynthia’s Ristorante, Kirchoff’s Bakery and Deli, or Tribeca Restaurant for a delicious bite to eat!
